What We Know…
The black and white is reproduced here with permission. This photo was taken in 1970. It shows Housing Development Board (HDB) “point blocks” at Kallang off Bendemeer Road. Block 26 is on the left and Block 28 is on the right.
Interestingly, the two rows of low-rise buildings between them is Bendemeer Mall, occupying Block 25 on the left and Block 27 on the right. A low-rise building housing the wet market and hawker centre stands behind Block 28.
A long time may have passed but interestingly, the place remains a vibrant place for the residents and business alike. In History, we learn about the concept of CHANGE AND CONTINUITY. This place totally nailed it. Take a walk there and soak in the atmosphere.
